Land O' Lakes is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pasco County, Florida, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 20,971. The city grew rapidly during the 1990s, growing from 7,800 residents to 20,971. The city is still growing rapidly as new housing developments are built, according to city estimates, the city has a population in 2007 of 30,250 residents. A new master planned community is being built in Land O' Lakes with approximately 8,766 homes, shops and restaurants, schools, and many franchises. Agency mulls water shortage order in N Fla.

GAINESVILLE (AP) — As rivers, lakes and groundwater levels plummet in north Florida, officials are pondering placing more stringent regulations on watering and irrigation.


The Suwanee River Water Management District says record lows recorded during the 2002 drought have been matched or eclipsed in April for many bodies of water.


The Gainesville Sun reports the agency could place water restrictions for residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial users.

CF Theatre Students Earn Superior, Innovation Awards

The College of Central Florida Theatre program was recently awarded a Superior ranking by the Florida College System Activities Association for its production of “The Tempest” by William Shakespeare. CF Theatre also received a special FCSAA Innovation Award which recognizes unique and innovative concepts and interpretations of classic works. The Florida Library Association awarded the Outstanding Program Award to the Friends of the Ocala Library at its annual conference in Orlando recently. According a a recent release, the award recognized the Friends’ April 16, 2011, program that featured noted Miami Herald columnist/author Carl Hiaasen. Liberty Ship Park becoming valuable asset

BRUNSWICK, GA. | Liberty Ship Park lies adjacent to the Liberty Harbor development in the shadow of the Sidney Lanier Bridge, and Mayor Bryan Thompson said continued improvements are making it a valuable asset.

“We’re completing the first phase, which includes a boat ramp, dock, sidewalks and round-about in front of the fishing and observation pier,” Thompson said, “and we’re going to add six picnic areas in the next phase.”

Four of the picnic areas will feature covered tables, with the other two located under the bridge and somewhat protected from the elements.

Jacksonville police search for man in investigation of custodial interference

Jacksonville police are looking for a man after a 6-month-old was taken from her mother Wednesday night.
Sgt. T.K. Waters said officers were called a little before 10 p.m. to a home in the 3000 block of Rosselle Street. The mother told police she and her boyfriend of six months had a fight, and the boyfriend took the baby.
Waters said the baby was reunited with her mother after about 90 minutes but declined to say how the baby was returned.
The boyfriend is not the baby's father, according to police.

HOLLYWOOD, FLA. | When Bowl Championship Series officials leave the beachside hotel in which they’ve gathered to hammer out the future of college football’s postseason, they want to have the choices whittled down to two or three.

The guys in charge met Wednesday for about eight hours to discuss overhauling how a champion is determined and possibly implementing a four-team playoff. It is the fourth such get-together this year, and they agreed it’s time to start narrowing the field.
